all the news that’s fit to print.

In another life I will return as Caitlin Mociun and design beautiful prints (not to mention the beautiful clothes to match). I was going to tell you which one is my favourite, but every time I look at these, another one catches my eye and becomes No. 1. You have to go to her website and check out the rest of them. and the clothes. and the jewelry. It’s not even fair.

Would it be too much to ask to have my couch, curtains, closet, and rugs decorated with only Mociun’s prints?? I think Iris Apfel, my idol,  could pull it off, so i’m going to say it’s completely ok!

simpler times.

A week ago I was vacationing in Clear Lake, Iowa. It’s a small lake town. It’s main street (literally called “Main Street”) is just 3 blocks. They shut the town down on Thursday nights and everyone gathers in the street to share live music, sweet corn, and handmade crafts. Afterward, people gather in the park and watch a movie in the public amphitheater. It was all quite different than the pedestrian-less,  grid-locked streets of Los Angeles streets that I’ve become accustomed to.

Growing up in the Midwest, my teenage angst stopped me from seeing the potential peace of “Small American Town”, but after living in a big city for over 10 years now, there is something so nurturing about it all. My good friend, Kaylin, said the same thing just last night, after returning from a trip to a small town in Northern California. In this time of extreme global reliance, the individual becomes so insignificant. Being in a small town reminds you that each of us has a story to tell. That just because it’s “backwater” doesn’t mean it’s “backwards”.

if they can do this, they can do anything.

Angus & Julia Stone performing “You’re the one that I want.”

Who knew this song could be so stunning? Definitely putting this one on repeat until my boyfriend throws my ipod out the window.

I re-discovered JW Anderson while sorting through old emails the other day. A co-worker had emailed me a few of his Fall 2010 collection (first three pics above) when it first came out, and I was curious to see how his more recent collections had turned out. Amazing, apparently! His layers and colour palettes are fantastic!I want that tartan plaid jacket in my closet immediately!

I chose my favourite 2 looks from his Sum ’12 line.See more of these seasons, and his corresponding men’s line @ JW-Anderson

doppelganger

10 Jun

If I ever wrote a short story I would want it to begin like this:

“The bottom of a man’s face melts into a pastel glop of sprinkles, ice cream, and sticky red sauce, a greedy bite cutting into the side of his head where his ear should be.”

Instead, those are the words Marlo Kronberg uses to depict one of the many images in Gestalten‘s book: Doppelganger, Images of the Human Being. The picture above caught my eye, for it’s colour and humour, but the other images are fantastic as well. Read Marlo’s textually-sumptuous review and then take a look around Gestalten’s website for some good visual brain food.

love is always SOMETHiNG MONUMENTAL

3 Jun

SOMETHiNG MONUMENTAL posted a feature about my blog today! Mandy has been one of my closest friends since 1st grade – she even punched a girl in grade school who was talking about me behind my back! (I’m not sure if i’m supposed to publicize that…sorry peapod!)

These days, she’s spending her time taking gorgeous pictures and making the most creative jewelry and felt pieces. I should have known from the decorated notes that we passed back and forth in school that she would grow into the wonderfully talented artist she is today.

I thought I’d share the love – above are just some of my favourites – go to her site and check out all her photos, poke around her blog, and buy some of her items!

Milin makes us young again.

28 May

Unless you happen to be a 5’10″ leggy twig, it’s probably been a while since any of us looked good in jumpsuits or shorty-short dresses. I must admit, though, I miss the days when I could wear a dress so short your bloomers showed and people still called it “cute” [read: age 3].

Enter Milin – a  Bangkok based fashion line whose dresses and jumpsuits are the perfect mix of Girl-y and Sophisticated. I can’t say enough about the detailed simplicity of their silhouettes.

Thank you, Milin, for keeping us looking “Sweet” and not “Sweet Baby Jane”.
